From Being Homeless to Studying Abroad
Elizabeth Camarillo-Gutierrez, a beautiful young promising girl from Tucson, Arizona, was once one of more than 1,000 homeless students served by Youth On Their Own (YOTO). As described by Arizona Business Daily, YOTO is “an empowerment agency that offers accountability-based financial assistance and support services to at-risk and homeless youth so they can focus on studies.”
After the court ordered her removed from her home, Elizabeth Camarillo-Gutierrez joined YOTO. She maintained excellent GPA and earned a monthly stipend from YOTO while she and her relative continued suffering from financial difficulty.
As a junior studying philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school, Elizabeth Camarillo-Gutierrez got a great opportunity for studying abroad due to the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. She is currently studying in the United Kingdom for one semester to gain better knowledge in globalization.
