在台灣住了近二十二年, 再次回到自己的國家---美國,年過五十但仍熱愛運動的先生Tim ,和一個年方二十的美國青年,在我們美國的住家對面學校空曠的青草地上, 玩著他狂愛的運動---美式足球 (American Football) 。
先生一個使勁的傳球, 只見球在空中以拋物線的路徑,高速旋轉飛馳, 那拼命奔逐著球的飛毛腿青年,及時伸出雙手, 將球緊抱於胸口。
"This is so sick!" 那青年氣喘如牛地說,
"What did you say? You don't like the pass?" 先生不悅地回問,
"I like it." 那青年一臉不解地問氣呼呼的先生,
"Why did you say "it is sick" then?" 先生情緒稍微緩和地問道,
"That means "it is good."" 青年澄清地說。
先生 Tim 很驚訝離開美國二十來年, 時下的美國年輕人對英語的用法, 是如此的曲解與創意並存。
